Over the years house parties have become a popular
and effective tool to raise money and awareness for
nonprofit organizations. When organized correctly, with sufficient time for preparation
and adequate direction, house parties can be quite
successful. Unfortunately, guidance for hosting parties has not kept pace with their use. Hosts
are often left without adequate direction, and organization
staff or volunteers too frequently aren't familiar with the necessary essential details
needed to hold successful house parties.
This manual
is a guide for organizations and hosts, and may
be modified to fit specific styles and needs. However,
do not underestimate the time
required to organize, execute, and follow up a successful
house party. Hosting a successful house party depends
largely on good communication between the organization and the host(s). The fewer
assumptions and misunderstandings there are, the better
the outcome.
